Alex Rodriguez Baseball Rookie Cards
By Alan Karpuch
Alex Rodriguez baseball cards are becoming the most popular baseball cards to collect. Alex’s cards have been going up in value in the past few years due to him being traded to the New York Yankees and getting closer to the elusive baseball home run record. Alex has many different rookie cards to choose from so the real question is which one do you buy? We will break down three of his most popular rookie cards and the pros and cons of each.
The 1994 SP is one of his best cards. This is also one of Alex Rodriguez’s rarer cards on the market. This baseball card was printed on a foil backed card board which makes it very condition sensitive. The card is very difficult to find in good condition due to the foil peeling off the card. If you are able to find this card is good condition I would advise you to buy it. The card In Gem MT condition sells for around $3,000.
Another great card is Alex’s 1994 SP Die-Cut Holoview. This Alex Rodriguez card comes out of the same SP set that we just wrote about. The difference between this card and the one above was this card was short printed. This means that only a very few of these cards were ever printed. (Approximately 400 cards) These cards have a red border and have a hologram printed in the background depicting Alex Rodriguez in his rookie uniform. This card in a recent auction brought more than $6,000.
Well if you can’t afford the two previous cards you might want to consider his regular 1994 Upper Deck rookie. This card you should be able to pick up for about $25.00 and is sure to go up in the nest few years.
No matter what kind of Alex Rodriguez rookie you decide to purchase this will hopefully explain what your best options are.
