I don’t think speaking english has anything to do with popularity but it does limit a player when it comes to interviews and being personable towards fans. If you can play then you’re gonna be loved by the fans of the team. And i thought the A-rod Matsui comparison was confusing because they are different players. Unless you were talking about how Alex Rodriguez speaks english even though he is hispanic which I responded I don’t even see him as a hispanic player because he’s so American (he was born in the US )

I think the fact that he doesnt speak english definitely hurts his popularity. but i dont think he would be more popular than arod because arod is going to be the all time HR leader. He played in the mlb his whole career unlike matsui. And arod is just a better player and future hall of famer. matsui will not be a hall of famer.

but simply from a fans point of view he is not very personable bc he cant speak english and that makes him boring. what he does on the field is great and i root for him and respect him for that but i just dont think hes as fun to watch as compared to somenoe like Swisher.

Also, i have heard that matsui can speak english but not perfectly and he is a perfectionist so he is embarassed to speak publicly and it not be perfect.

I think everyone should just speak english in america , and we shouldnt accomodate for those who dont want to.
